Sponsor a Decorator
So...Dallas is my first big long distance job. Honestly, I am incredibly surprised at how easy it has been. The truth is that I just stuck to my rule. Don't pretend that you don't know any more than you really know...except when you don't know something that makes you look like a complete idiot. Then? Stall. Just a little bit...while you Google.
Besides that...so far, Dallas is a success due to the help that I have had down there...
I have had all of the furniture sent to my receiver in Dallas...Delivery Limited. They send me pictures when the items arrive...
Julian Chichester's dining chairs.
Hickory Chair's Continental Chair in Rose Cumming's Metallic Bird.
Tai Ping sends me pictures of the custom wool and silk rug in progress... Now, can't you see why these damn things cost SO much?
Justin Evans, my general contractor, sends me pictures of the progress in the townhouse.
Original vanity...
The inspiration...
The knock-off...
The den. New walls in American Clay tinted with Benjamin Moore's Mohegan Sage.
The original kitchen. Nice but a bit masculine...
We pick out Benjamin Moore's Kendall Gray for the cabinets plus three Calacatta slabs for the counters and backsplash.
New marble and painted cabinets...awaiting new appliances.
New lighting in cabinets...awaiting glass doors in German New Antique...
Fireplace in American Clay tinted with Benjamin Moore's Northampton Putty.
Niches awaiting Phillip Jeffries glass beaded wallcovering Rock Star in Glitter. New dark stain on existing wood floors.
New wrought iron banister. Glad my client agreed. I had that little sexy curve added at the end. Pretty.
Outdoor furniture arrives...
This must be what it is like to sponsor a child. Write a lot of checks. Get a couple of pictures.

I am totally blown away by the paper gardens and other sculptures Eloise makes for clients like Anthro, Macy's and Saks. Check out more of Eloise's work here.

Sartorialist Vintage Photo Contest

Of course, I'm loving all of the classic styles, but the thing that I've found especially interesting is how much more focus I place on the wearer than on the clothes themselves. All of the subjects of the photos have a certain poise or swagger about them that matters so much more than what they're wearing. So all of those times your mom told you confidence is what matters --- she was right! Although a pair of killer heels or perfectly tailored pants sure doesn't hurt.
I wish I had access to my family archives to enter, but I urge all of you guys to do so if you can. Contest rules here.

February/March Recap
I have been a little busy these last few months.
I'm training for a marathon. I am up to 21 miles which requires running with a fanny pack to pack Gatorade and gummies full of electrolytes. I should be emaciated at this point but I'm not. Weird. Moral of the story. Running is overrated.
Went to Minneapolis...the land of frozen rain and tater tot casseroles.
Where my son threw a 5-year-old tantrum in a 5-Star hotel.
Which, thank god, included a 5-Star mini bar.
Witnessed my mom making snow angels...
...in shearling and Louis Vuitton.
Dug in at the Science Museum.
Mastered badminton with friends and formed our own team. Bad Kitten.
Had a Valentine's Day party.
Turned 39.
Went to Portland and celebrated at my hairdressers' pad.
Went to a dinner party at Space and Ouiji's house.
Easy Ouiji.
Played tooth fairy.
Drove by something beary random.
Fell in love and bought. This.
Went to a party at Buddha's house.
Went to Sunriver. Kept the lodge in check...
Got wild. Totally out of character.
Charles turned 6.
Rock climbed.
Had lunch at Marche. Alone. For no reason.
Made new rule. No more handcuffs in the shower.
...while dad taught the kids how to ski...
Met Joan...a vintage ski bunny.
Attempted to hijack a golf cart.
Saw Alice in Wonderland in 3-D.
Tried this. Hated it.
Had a baby shower for Jarrell. Baby Miro.
Made Banh Mis.
Drilled a coconut. For fun.
Went to a Duck basketball game...right before the AD Bellotti canned Kent and then quit.

Cocktailed at my client's house...and admired the best sconces that I have ever ordered.
Had a poker party in the locker room at the Country Club because there is an all boys card room there...so why shouldn't we have the same?
Post game/post cocktails.
Made falafels.
Rearranged some furniture at home.
Replaced lacquer with pine. For spring.
Wrapped up this job. Befores and afters. Mister approves a little job for their other house. I predict he regrets this. Remember...this makeover started out as just a carpet change.
