Pimp Your Attic: Creative Ways To Transform Your Attic

By Peter Taylor

Among all the rooms of the house, the attic is the most often neglected. It is turned into a stockroom and most old stuff are placed in it to have additional space in the house. However, the attic can be an additional room and there are many things you can do with it aside from making it as junk area.

The attic should easily be reached. With this, there should be a good stairs to be used in climbing to the attic. In order for it to not take up much space, use folding stairs. But, if you decide to turn your house's attic to a playroom or entertainment room, it is strongly suggested that you have a fixed and good stairs installed.

The first thing to put in consideration when you want to dress up your attic is the ventilation. With great ventilation, attic will look and feel good. In planning for the windows, you have to consider both air and natural light. Since the attic is a high place, it is easier to have these two factors together. Attics have slanting roof making it hard to put side windows. Having dormers are advised for attics where the roof and the floor directly meets. If they still have a distance of five feet in between, then you can simply install small windows. Skylights will also give life to the attic.

Turning the attic to a storage-room is a bit difficult because of the unleveled walls and corners. Hence, if you want to make it a storage area, have cabinets and horizontal shelves to cover the walls and use the space. Simply ensure that the store room is not too big. Since attics' floor is not that high from its ceiling, the cabinets may leave small space for one to stand under it. One of the creative ways to deal with it is placing a small stool under it.

Now that you were done with the ventilation and the uneven walls, next thing that you should do is to make sure that you make the room beautiful with the proper lighting. Create an illusion of space by painting the walls of the room with light colors such as white and off white. Place blinds on the windows and find a beautiful skylight shade.

If you decide to turn the place into a game room or a music room, have your home theater system installed in there. If you like a space to rest and relax, you can put a nice comfy recliner in it. A bath tub can also be placed in the attic. Simply have a professional to install the water and drainage system. Scented candles, fumes and oils can also help you relax.

These are just some of the many ways to pimp your attic. Explore your creativity and transform your attic into a comfortable room.
