Choosing A Bathroom Mirror

By Joe Davies

Bathroom mirrors can really be the pinnacle of bathroom design. They are the centrepiece of most bathroom furniture, so your choice in a mirror will be very important. They are not only important for looks but also for functionality. Just think, the mirror in the bathroom is the last place you look before leaving the house. They are where you groom yourself when shaving or applying make up. There are different types of bathroom mirrors and choosing the right one is essential.

Remember before choosing a mirror for your bathroom you will have to consider space and decide what will look best in your bathroom. Some people are looking for simplicity and functionality, while others are looking for class and style in their bathroom mirror choices.

A large wall mounted mirror will make the room look large and should be placed on the biggest wall of your bathroom. You can decide on the frame of the mirror and will have some options of shape too. The frame will need to match your other bathroom furniture, so if you have fancy taps or chrome bath rails, choose a mirror that will match this. Also consider the basic shape of the mirror which may include an arc, or simply straight.

Bracketed mirrors will allow the mirror to be placed on the wall but be very flexible. They can be twisted and moved from the bracket, so it's great for shaving or applying make up. These mirrors are more about functionality and can also look very stylish if you choose one that can be illuminated. The brackets come in many different styles also, some being a simple up and down left and right movement, while others will come with a much more flexible bracket.

Free standing mirrors will look great above the sink in smaller bathrooms. Some rooms are not quite big enough for wall mounted mirrors or bracketed mirrors, so a small free standing mirror looks the best. Most of them have two sides, with one side being magnified, which is great fro personal grooming such as shaving or putting make up on. They are usually rotatable and move from left to right also, and come in a few different shapes.

Whatever bathroom mirror you choose you can be assured to find something that will match the rest of your bathroom furniture. Each bathroom mirror type has it's merits and also drawbacks.
