Enjoy An Improved Home Without Blowing The Bank

By John Sung

An alteration in the interior design of your home can be refreshing; but the costs can be exorbitant enough to make you rethink refurbishing the interiors. Here are a few tips for renovating your house without having to spend too much on the activity.

Alterations in the basic structure of the home are normally expensive and time consuming. Such alterations should be avoided in all cases, with the only exception being when you are particularly bothered by a particular part of the house. It will be a good idea to focus on features that can be changed easily, without requiring any external help or bearing a huge cost.

Your home loan financer will love you if you make structural betterments to your home that will enhance its value. Funnily enough if you read up on what some house renovation investment gurus advocate some of the improvements are low priced but add 1000's to the amount of rent you can charge if renting, plus can add to the capital value of your property as well. If you want to leverage on the increased value of your improvements then you will need to get your home revalued and then go see your lender with the new valuation.

Walls are the first things that you have to take care of. Drastic changes in your interiors can be achieved by merely changing the colour or wall finish or by applying new wallpapers. Factors such as the amount of natural light in the interiors of the home, or the choices of small children who might prefer brighter colours must also be considered when choosing a fresh colour.

The second thing to look at is the drapes. The colours and designs of the drapes should be cautiously chosen. Moreover, you should also be aware of the fact that different materials let different amount of light through. For instance, for your drawing room you might want something partially transparent, through which some sunlight can enter to keep the room bright.

Furniture is a critical factor in interior design, and you cannot complete a renovation of your residence without taking it into account. Fabric covering the furniture can be washed or changed, while its wooden surfaces can be re-polished to make it look fresh.

The last element is the type of art you want to place in your rooms. It would be advisable to buy some new paintings or sculptures for your rooms. The old artworks can either be sold or at least their placement within the home should be changed.
