Beautiful, Exotic Hardwood Flooring - Is it Right for Your Home?

By Aladdin Modjarrad

As hardwood floors continue to grow in popularity some homeowners are starting to look beyond the more traditional choices for something a little more exotic, that will set their rooms apart from everyone else's. Here are some of the exotics that are growing in popularity and a basic explanation of their unique characteristics:

Brazilian Cherry/Jatoba - Whichever name you choose to call it by this is one very tough and resilient hardwood, one of the hardest available. It is also incredibly beautiful to behold with its shades of red and brown accented by a certain golden luster that adds a cozy warmth to any room, no matter how large.

Brazilian Walnut - This hardwood actually comes from the Lapacho tree but is often referred to as a walnut because of its olive brown to almost black color range. Another extremely hard hardwood flooring option, the yellower sapwood of the Lapacho tree often creates some highly attractive but unusual tone and color variations.

Cabreuva - Cabreuva offers a unique aesthetic appearance that can add charm to any room it is installed in. The sapwood of cabreuva is pale brown while the heartwood is purplish-red in color meaning that the flooring planks can be found in all manner of unique hues.

Tiger Wood - For those looking for a hardwood flooring option that is a little lighter in color Tiger Wood is well worth looking at. The sapwood of tigerwood is brownish-white to dirty gray, while the heartwood is reddish-brown to light golden-brown in color which can impart a lighter, airier feeling when laid in a smaller room.

These are just a few of the hardwood species that are available for the homeowner to choose from today, there are many more, each of them with their own extraordinary look. What they all have in common is that when you are choosing a new hardwood floor they are all worth taking into consideration.
