Pottery - A Not-So-Popular Form Of Art

By Lourdes L. Moultrie

People always correlate art to the most popular art expressions such as film, music and other things. Most might not consider pottery as an art but definitely it is. Like other arts, pottery has also changed from the use of common clay only to the use other several other mediums.

A building that collapse before it is finished is not an art so is a distorted pot. But a pot with perfect dimensions and perfect balance is a work of an artist. Not all has this ability or skills to create such thing.

It is easy to master to make pots that can be easily sold in the market, but to add the aspect of art on these pots is another story.

It is right to relate pottery is wrongly associated with common items found in the gardens like plant bases or in kitchen such as clay cooking pots but in reality there are more. Pottery encompasses several other artistic designs including sculptures made of clay, wall decors and many others.

Stoneware, porcelain and earthenware are the three major types of pottery. Each type is composed of different materials, cooked in a klin at different temperatures.

Earthenware is the most common and the cheapest type in pottery and pots made from it is heated at lowest temperature compared to the other materials. Stoneware pots are stronger than earthenware pots because it is heated at higher temperature.

Porcelain is heated at high temperature (1200C) which makes it strong but breakable and the special type of clay material used also result to it translucent appearance. A very popular example of a pottery developed from porcelain is the Chinese plate.

Pottery is not an easy job, from the materials preparation alone you need to have enough knowledge to produce the right material for particular pots. To shape the different designs of pots, you need real talent to create a perfect pot. Hence pottery is not just a job, it is an art.

A Brief Guide To Paint Techniques

By Leo York

If you want to learn how to create art it is important to learn some basic paint techniques. People often make basic mistakes while painting and this can put them off working any further. However with the right preparation it is possible to get the most from this pleasing hobby that may one day flourish into a passion.

For example there are certain programs for computers and consoles that can show you the basics of different artistic mediums. The advantage of this is you can see demonstrations of how they work and learn for yourself without any mess or any need to purchase extra equipment. Over time you can then do this for yourself.

Water colour painting is probably the best medium for more impromptu pieces. It is recommended to do a lot of work outside, making note of how light affects the colours of certain areas. As you become more confident you will then be able to transfer this skill into the studio.

With oil painting there is the advantage of being able to physically remove the oils with a palette knife. If you are worried about using up colours too quickly you can get more from the tubes by squeezing from the bottom. It is recommended when you are storing your work that it is not kept in a cold room or it could become cracked when unrolled.

Oil painting can be more forgiving for a novice. You can physically scrape the oil off the canvas, making it easier to make corrections. It is often recommended to start off with oil as it can help when working with other mediums. When storing oil paintings do not keep them in a cold room as they become cracked when unrolled.

This is a basic introduction to different paint techniques. It is worth looking online for video demonstrations to see how these work in practise. You can also look up local art classes to start practising for yourself.

Enhance The Look Of Your Room With A Mirror

By Debbie D. Miller

Decorating your room not only involves just looking at the different options of furniture and curtains that you can change but you can give your room charm by adding just a mirror.

Mirrors have the advantage that they reflect light to brighten up your room and make it look bigger than what it actually is.

If you live in a small house then you may want to fit each of your rooms with a mirror to give that radiance and make your rooms look bigger. This bigger the mirror the bigger your room will look.

Mirrors cater to different rooms and can be found in a variety of shapes and sizes. Go in for a large mirror which stands on the floor if you have a huge room or just get a wall mirror to fix in that corner if you have a small room.

Mirrors have always been a multipurpose item. While it lets you see yourself it also adds charm to your room in a similar fashion like a painting hanging on a wall. Large size mirrors completely show you your entire body.

A huge mirror that is a full length one will quite certainly make your room look bigger than its size instantly.

Choose the frame of your mirror very carefully. Although mirrors have frames that are designed to suite the color scheme of your room it is important to know what works and what does not as you can ruin the look of your room with a bad choice.

The latest trend is to fit a room with a mirror that does not have a frame at all. This is a simplistic approach that gives your room a modern look with the mirror just hanging from a wall. For those rooms that already are filled with furniture this is a very good option to beautify the room.

Ideas To Bring Your Bedroom Up-To-Date

By Amanda Price

The most important part of our home is the bedroom. Not only does this room provide relaxation and sleep, but also peace of mind away from the busy schedule of life. They give us shelter when we need it most irrespective of the style or personal preferences.

You may think just having a bed and few things in the bedroom makes it cozy for you, you are grossly mistaken as sky is the limit to make your bedroom a place where you can really relax and be fresh next morning.

There are various means to decorate your bedroom as this is a personal preference and individual choice. Just imagine the accessories in your bedroom which offers complete peace and harmony. A huge variety of styles and decorations are available. This variety is so tempting that you cannot refuse and is within your budget.

The modern bedroom once decorated not only saves the space but looks very elegant and stylish. You may go for Feng Shui and make your bedroom shinier and acceptable.

After spending a busy day at the office, you need a place which gives you serenity and relaxation; there is no other place except your bedroom. The modern furniture and other accessories including bedding reflect your lifestyle.

Bedding can have a different variety with subdued colors but bold shapes that depict the modern style. Matching of various modern pieces can make your bedroom worth envying.

Cozy collection of beddings available in vibrant colors. Combination of modern art, a feeling of relaxation, or a combination of all. Just avoid the bright and glowing lights, which do more harm than good.

Keep your bedroom free from outdated material like bundle of old newspaper, bunch of clothes or medicines etc. The bedroom is for rest and relaxation and not a storeroom where you can dump anything you like.

INSPIRATION: THE BLUE HOUR

PROPS: I dont know how many times I have spoken on the topic of light. It is truly the most inspirational and challenging thing my mind tackles on a day to day basis. I am constantly trying to capture it myself in my own travels and such, sometimes I come close to getting the idea across, but most times I have to rely on the memory, which I have learned can be just as rewarding and makes it somewhat more special as something just for me. When I stumble upon photos like the ones above, I'm humbled. Who knows if this other blogger Brian, (coincidence) who lives in London has the same ideas about light, or maybe he doesn't think twice about it. I guess it doesn't matter, he got me to look, he got me to keep looking and it made me smile. Right now in Seattle, were having some of the most beautiful twilight hours each night, the colors that I have been seeing...well they're just stunning. Moving. Seeing. Building a library in my brain in hopes that I'll see it in something else down the road. THE BLUE HOUR

Gallery Wall Fabulousness

After three months of procrastinating, I finally got around to putting together my gallery wall in the living room. It's definitely a work in progress, but I'm happy with the results so far. Both large picture frames are vintage and the window pane is from the early 1900's. I seriously heart vintage windows. I have a stock pile of them and lots of ideas on how to use them. So far, I've used the one in the photo as a picture frame and another one I turned into a bulletin board for my office. I am also quite proud of the pink Dachshund cross stitch at the bottom of the photo. That is my first attempt at cross stitch. Not bad for no idea what I was doing. You may also notice my Pom-Pom garland that I've mentioned before. This is one of my favorite craft projects I've done. I'm always trying to come up with a reason to make them now. Anyhoo, gallery walls are a great way to display many items in a grouping for big impact. My only rules for creating a gallery wall are to use your favorite pieces, have your design planned out before putting a bunch of holes in the wall and to keep things balanced, whether you are doing a standard square pattern or a diagonal like mine. Happy hanging and yes, that is a mailbox in a frame.

The Benefits Of Purchasing Rubber Flooring

By Bryce Jacobs

Colors of carpets differ according to the place where they will be used. Therefore, white carpets will never be found and animal farms.

Gyms and animal farms require floorings which are different from carpets. These places require floorings which can be suitable for tough conditions, and rough usage they will be subjected to. Stains spills etc; and may ruin a carpet. Therefore, rubber flooring sure makes go for use in such places.

Because, these floorings come in very attractive design, the place where they are used also look very nice. Because, they are tough and durable they can withstand very rough usage in gyms. Things like perspiration, scuffs by shoes and other rough things may happen in gyms.

These floorings are recommended for animal farms also for these reasons. The stains caused by animal dung do not linger and the flooring can be relied upon to give a clean look. It is bad enough that you have to clean this nasty stuff up. Why make it harder if you have a light colored floor? These rough usages however do not affect the durability of the flooring. Specially made floorings are used in factories and workshops. That can withstand the scrapping due to dragging of sharp edged and heavy material that may be dropped on them.

It may be unbelievable to know that these floorings remain fire proof. Cleaning them is easy even though many people will go by the wrong impression that it not so. They will learn by experience.

When you consider its proved durability, you will realize that what you have purchased is really worthwhile. They do not tear and stain like carpets. With such quality material available you should not hesitate to purchase these floorings from any store.

The tough quality and durability of the floorings make you think that you have purchased something worth going for. You will realize that the money spent on the purchase has been worthwhile and not wasted.

It is hoped that all the information given above will give you a clear idea of what your requirement is and what this flooring can do for you. It is worth while trying it out. You may just find that these tips will work perfectly for you.

Ways To Create A Beautiful Kitchen

By Milton J. Aguero

Doing renovations is not a very bad idea especially if you want your old kitchen to look tiptop. It will enhance the value of your home too to make the whole place feel warm and look beautiful again.

Your initial move should be to obtain a whole range of suggestions. The ideas can come from all quarters. For example, you could cut out pictures of homes from magazines. Another way is to visit the internet and check out any pages with beautiful features of kitchens so that you can always go back and look at it very fast.

Go to showrooms to have a feel of all those various colors and textures which are attractive enough for you to try. Apart from this, check out the stores to see the stoves, fridges and dishwashers if you would like to go the whole hog to upgrade everything.

Have a keen look at the various floors, counter top surfaces, cabinets, sinks and faucets. You would have to do quite a bit of looking around. It should be fun just going around looking at all the options there are out there to choose from.

Do a rough sketch of what you want it to look like. Bear this in mind all the time so that you have a rough idea of the look and feel of the kitchen. For example, is it an airy environment or is it a warmer and cozy kitchen space. All these will lead and guide you when selecting the right flooring material plus colors for the walls and fixtures.

You will maybe think about the general layout of your kitchen. Nowadays most people prefer to position the sink away from the cupboards so that they can have enough room for movement.

When choosing the kitchen lighting fixtures and electric appliances, lookout for the efficient type that can save energy.

Your next move would be to hire a professional to do the work or rebuilding the kitchen for you. Another option is to get a tradesman whom you know and trust to do a good job to take it up. This will only work well if you are able to wait long and do not mind the inconvenience.

With lots of good organizing this should result in your getting a wonderful kitchen that will be a great joy to the whole family. You would then count your rewards and never get to regret the days you spent walking around shopping for the right fixtures, even sourcing for the right contractor.

Various Kinds Of Bed Frames To Look Into

By Tonya C. Diaz

There are other things to be considered before deciding on a particular frame. What you buy should not be in a hurry if you have to buy a frame for double bed. You should know certain things about these frames before you choose one from a store. Do not get carried away by the low price.

Metal on casters set up is somewhat old and out of fashion design. You will have to go for something that is in fashion today like ones having platform styling. They will give some fresh feel to your bedroom.

Different available options for the frames are leather, metal or the wood frames and these eradicate the necessity of box springs. This will certainly save much of money for you.

One more fashionable model contains four-poster style and is simply the opposites of simple designs. These will be a source of adding elegance as well as style to the bedroom of yours.

Four posters are the latest models. They are very elegant to look at and different from simple designs

Some important things are to be remembered prior to your taking a decision. The essential part is the frame you choose should match other furniture in your bedroom. On the other hand for a new bedroom, all the furniture can be selected to match each other. The size of the room is very important as it has to hold not only the bed frame but also other furniture.

Make sure about the actual space available in your bedroom before looking for a bed frame. Once that is done the consideration is only the price.

One worth considering option is to make your purchase online. This will allow you to make your decision after going through various options. So this option should also be kept in mind before making you purchase.
