Remembering Viejo San Juan

While the sun and surf in Puerto Rico was fantastic, Old San Juan really took my breath away. All of the elegant buildings were beautifully decayed -- chipped stucco, sun and salt-faded colors, standing beside overgrown alleyways and blue cobblestone, with witty graffiti and brilliant posters carelessly plastered to their walls. Even the names and typography of the street signs were perfect.

We arrived late in the afternoon and stopped for lunch at a hole-in-the-wall courtyard cafe called Bistro Latino (serving epic burgers and pina coladas). After, we wandered up, down and around the main strip on Calle del Cristo, and finally made our way up to Fort Felipe Del Morro, a 16th century citadel, overlooking a beautiful oceanside cemetery. Outside the citadel, hundreds of locals and tourists alike took in the sun, picnicked and filled the air with kites. (I'm telling you there must have been at least 50 kites in the air). Absolutely one of the prettiest scenes I've ever witnessed.

Images by me, more Puerto Rico photos to come!
